What is "The Javascript Picture Database?"

In the fall of 1998 I decided I needed to update my web skills with various scripting technologies (Javascript and VBScript). I chose the fairly ambitious project of creating an HTML/Javascript database system that is used to keep track of various picture files.

I found a whole box of family slides from the 1950's and scanned over 100 of them. I used the Javascript Picture Database I had written to catalog and display the images. I stamped a bunch of cd's and handed them out at Xmas time. It was a big hit at the family get together. Even better, with very little additional effort I modified it so that I get a different wallpaper image on my computer every so many minutes, out of a catalog of several thousand images (well, at least I'm amused by this). It also allows me to very easily display pictures from my digtal camera on the Internet with descriptions for each picture with a minimal amount of effort.

It ended up being a fairly big project, and Javascript as it turns out, isn't very well suited for the task. Basically it works. There are a few quirks and issues but oh well. At this point it does what I need it to and I currently don't have any plans to update it. Feel free to download it and check it out.

Where can I download the Javascript Picture Database?

Right Here. Use in good health and at your own risk.
BTW: This is useless unless you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer v4.0 or greater. Forget about it you use Netscape.
